■ Korea Trade Insurance Corporation (K-sure, www.ksure.or.kr, Moon Jaedo, president) announced that it would support the Canakkale Suspension Bridge Construction Project in Turkey. In the project, two major Korean constructors, Daelim Industrial and SK E&C participate.

○ The total amount of support provided by K-SURE will be EUR400 million through its mid and long-term export insurance program, with which the two Korean constructors could get a long-term bank loan at a low interest.

○ The total project amount for the Canakkale bridge construction is EUR3.1 billion. The project is sponsored by the Turkish government under a private-public partnership (PPP) to facilitate the regional economy of the southeast of the country.

○ The construction of Canakkale is an investment development type project in which Daelim and SK involve in the whole project process from equity investment, bridge construction to operation through formation of a consortium with Turkish companies.

■ This project was highly coveted by leading global constructors from Japan, Italy and Turkey, but the deal was finally awarded to the Korean consortium for their superb technical knowhow and competitive financing terms.

■ Through its support to this project, K-SURE is expected to provide Korean financiers with business opportunities for financing investment development projects sponsored by developing countries.

■ President Moon of K-SURE stated that “The overseas construction market is fast shifting toward the investment development type in which not only the technical knowhow but also the financing terms for project bidding are highly critical in final selection of project winner.

○ “With such changed market conditions, K-SURE will do its utmost to support Korean constructors’ project winning and overseas business of Korean financiers.”
