- To further vitalize export in Eastern Europe including Hungary, Romania and the Czech Republic
- To provide Korean exporters with ‘intensive support’ for trade insurance by utilizing its solid local network

■ Korea Trade Insurance Corporation (K-SURE, www.ksure.or.kr) held the opening ceremony of the Warsaw branch at Marriott Hotel in Warsaw, Poland.

○ The event was attended by over 50 heads* of government, public institutions, related organizations and companies in Korea and Poland.

* In-ho Lee (Chairman and President of K-SURE), Ki-pyong Kim (Chief Representative in Warsaw of K-SURE), Magdalena Rzeczkowska (Secretary of State, Head of the National Revenue Administration, Ministry of Finance of Poland), Mi-ra Sun (Ambassador of the Korean Embassy to Poland), Jong-suk Nam (President of the Korean Community Association in Poland)

■ The Warsaw branch of K-SURE covers 11 major markets in Central and Eastern Europe, including Poland, Hungary, Romania, and the Czech Republic, and is expected to add vitality to export and investment of domestic companies.

○ For Korea, Poland is a major trading partner among other EU countries, with the export volume of Korean companies to Poland recording U$ 5.6 billion in 2020, second only to Germany. At the same time, Poland is the largest consumer market in Central and Eastern Europe for Korea and accordingly, is considered as a key entry point to those markets.

○ Also, major Korean companies such as Samsung, LG, SK, and POSCO have established material and recycling plants for secondary battery in Poland and Hungary. All these trends clearly show that for domestic companies, Central and Eastern Europe has been an attractive major export location for new businesses.

■ With its solid network with private and public institutions, the Warsaw branch plans to provide various services including local market trend research, buyer credit surveys, and export receivables collection in a quick and systematic manner. By doing so, it will provide intensive local support to domestic companies and meet their trade insurance needs.

■ Mr. Inho Lee, Chairman and President of K-SURE, said, “Our Warsaw branch took its very first big step in Poland, which has been called the heart of Europe. I believe that the Warsaw branch will play a bridging role for Korean companies to expand their trade footing in Europe.”
