■ Mr. In-ho Lee, former vice minister of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy of Korea, has been inaugurated as a new Chairman and President of K-SURE on January 2, 2019.


■ In his inauguration remarks, the new president said that “There have been some positive signs in our economy. For example, Korea’s export volume reached USD 600 billion last year. However, when you think about internal and external trade environments around us, such as spread of protectionism, you can easily notice that the prospects for the economy and export are not bright.”

○ “In order to secure future growth engines in Korea, K-SURE will take a lead in achieving innovative growth by actively seeking out and fostering innovative companies. And it will help Korean companies advance into the world.”

○ He stressed that “For Korean enterprises, we will do our best to maintain our leadership in making inroads into new markets such as New Southern and New Northern markets,”

○ “Also, as a trustworthy financial resource allocation institution, we will focus on providing substantial support that SMEs themselves can feel the benefits of it.

○ He added that “K-SURE will offer new value to the customers by improving customer-friendly system with new technologies such as Big Data and AI.”

○ Also, he delivered the message to his members saying that “I want to see K-SURE become a caring institution that looks out for Korean people. So, in order to make that happen, please let go of your old ways of thinking and be confident in every activity you take in your tasks.”


■ Mr In-ho Lee, the new president, has gained full expertise while holding key positions in the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy for the last 30 years.

○ In particular, he has a clear understanding of overall trade policy. For example, right after the launch of the Trump administration, he led the negotiation with the US to ease the trade pressures.

○ Mr. In-ho Lee graduated from Seoul National University with a degree in Economics. Since he passed the 31st Civil Service Examination, he has served as Director General for Policy Coordination at Office of Planning and Coordination, Director General for Office of Creative Industry Policy, Senior Director at Office of International Trade and Investment, Deputy Minister for Trade and Vice Minister in the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.

○ Also, he has been highly respected by his seniors and colleagues for his motivated and reasonable work style.
